Tsukineko - Questions and Answers

Accessories - Walnut Ink

Q: What is the purpose of Walnut ink? Walnut Ink 4 Pack
A: Walnut ink was developed to create an antique look on almost any porous surface, including paper, leather, wood, ribbon, & paper mache.
Q: Does Walnut Ink have walnuts in it?
A: Walnut ink really does contain tiny bits of the skin of the walnut! It’s a very old method of staining things. But, don’t worry about nut allergies. Tsukineko has not heard of anyone having an allergic reaction to the Walnut Ink.
Q: How is Walnut Ink applied? Walnut Ink
A: Walnut Ink is available in a spray top bottle. Use as is, or dilute for a softer look. Pour some into a dish and apply with a dauber, sweeper, foam wedge, paint brush or sponge, for different effects.
Q: How can I control the spray?
A: Lay a cardboard box on its side. Place your work on the bottom side of the box. This will prevent over-spray to near by objects. Aim at the back of the box. Pretend there is a “bulls-eye” target and aim! Give the Walnut Ink a good, strong pump. The “mist” will fall lightly down to the project on the bottom, and leave a fine misting of color.
Q: How can I get some “blobs” of antiquing color on my artwork?
Walnut Ink CrystalsA: Place your work inside the box, as described above, and spritz, pushing slowly down on the spray pump. Aim at your work. This will produce larger blobs and dots of ink.
